Now that it’s getting a little warmer, hemlines are coming up and straps are disappearing. It has become popular amongst designers to create large armholes or see-through tops; which begs the question: what do I wear under that?

Here are some tips on how to properly show your bra, when to wear a tank, and when to wear a slip:

1. Nude Slip. If you have a see-through dress invest in a nude slip. Do not try to wear a cute bra or underwear because that is a fashion no-no. If you wear a bathing suit underneath, you must be at least 30 yards from a water source.

2. Colored Bra. If you have a see-through top (which is very trendy now) wear a nice looking colored bra underneath. There is no sense in wearing a nude bra when it will completely be seen anyways. Stick to tones. If it is a sheer cream top, wear a light pink bra. If it is a black top, wear a nice black lace. Do not mix black and white and go with a conservative cut. You’re not Madonna.

3. Bandeau. If you have a tank or top that has a large armhole, wear a nice bra or bandeau since everyone will see it anyways, again stick to tones.

4. Invest in a Tank. If the top or dress is extremely low cut in the front, wear a tank underneath. It isn’t stylish to completely be hanging out of a dress.

I was recently cleaning out my closet and realized there are basic garments that every woman should have. Have you been a bit confused on what to throw out or keep?

I have complied a list of essential looks and pieces for building the perfect wardrobe:

THE ESSENTIAL OUTFITS:

1. An Interview Outfit- Even if you have a job or career, you should always have a professional look for interviews, business dinners, and conferences. Essentials: Black dress pants; white silk blouse.

2. The ‘Wowzer’ Dress- Every girl needs a dress in her closet that makes her look like a supermodel. Essentials: The little black dress (make sure it is fitted for your body).

3. Default Wedding Guest Dress- It’s always nice to have a cute easy-to-wear dress for occasions like a friend’s wedding or meeting your beau’s mother. Essentials: Redheads, make sure you have an amazing green or brown dress that really shows off your red locks.

THE ESSENTIAL PIECES:

1. Great Jeans- They need to fit right in the waist and the length must be tailored if not the perfect length.

2. Black Blazer- This piece is so versatile that it can be worn over sweaters, dresses, and with tanks and jeans.

3. Basic Black Pumps- You have to keep these polished and nice because they are perfect for all the events in your life. No bar-tar or nights on the town!

4. Charcoal T-Shirt- The color makes anything you wear chic.

5. Working Lingerie- It can be sexy or basic, but they need to be the right pick. No panty lines, ladies! And get fitted for bras because the right size is essential.

1. The Traditional Jacket- I remember I got my first black leather jacket from The Limited Too in the 3^rd grade- thank you, Santa! Leather jackets are so great for looking fashionable and keeping you warm. This traditional style never goes out of fashion, but every year there’s a different leather jacket trend. These days it’s more of a cropped look with lots of embellishments.

You can get away with buying faux leather, but make sure to buy a more durable heavier fabric, so it holds up longer. I have seen the love a jacket like this.

2. $ When to Splurge- One place in your wardrobe you really need to invest your leather budget in is good quality shoes. Leather boots will pretty much mold to you once you wear them enough and on the plus side, you’ll have them for years and years!

The Negative? You might have to fork over some money for the initial investment.  Be sure to get a style you love because you’ll be wearing them a long time!

And be warned for crocking. Crocking is when there’s a color transfer from the leather to another surface (your feet, socks, etc…) so, be prepared if you get caught in the rain.

When to Buy Cheap- You can get away with faux leather in accessories and party handbags.  You don’t necessarily need leather in your belt to keep your jeans up and the faux clutch can still hold all of your lipsticks! If you spill on them when you’re out, no worries.

Unique Buy- Leather tops, that’s right! Pair them with simple jeans or a black skirt.  People will be rubbing your back all night.

If an accessory won’t help, visit a tailor. A tailor will fit the clothes to your body and you’ll notice a huge difference in the way you look and feel!

3. I love when redheads wear gold jewelry because it flatters fair skin and red hair in an amazing way! Thankfully, military clothes are often embellished with signature gold or bronze claps, closures, and buttons.

4. The military look is always comprised of “redhead friendly” colors like navy, hunter green and brown.

5. The look won’t break the bank. Whether you shop at high end department stores like Neiman Marcus or vintage shops, you can find key military pieces at an affordable price.
