Every week, we put out a call for your redhead questions. This gives you a chance to get advice or input from our team of redheads. From beauty and fashion to lifestyle, redheads are in a unique boat, and we want to help make this community a place where you can turn to for all your redhead needs.

This week, we’re answering a question from Instagram that reads: “Can beard dye work to dye our eyebrows red?” This is a great question, and something we know a lot of redheads might not be aware of! Most redheads have light reddish blonde brows (and eyelashes) and often want them to be darker in color. For many redheads, using a redhead brow product is adequate, but others want something more permanent. Here’s everything you need to know about tinting your brows, and how to do it with beard dye.

How can redheads tint their brows?

First off, to answer this question: YES! Beard dye is the best at-home way for redheads to tint their brows. It’s relatively mess-free, easy to get the hang of, and super cost-effective. Many redheads opt to use the brand Just for Men Beard Dye . It’s a common brand you can find in the drugstore, or buy online.  Redheads usually use the shade blonde or the shade light red-brown.

To go about tinting your brows you need 5 things: beard dye, a small angled brush, Vaseline and/or Q-tips, and makeup wipes. Wash and dry your face, removing any skincare, SPF, or makeup. If you’re new to dyeing your brows, we suggest applying Vaseline to the skin surrounding the brow. This acts as a barrier and helps prevent any skin staining.

Step 1: Mix a pea-sized amount of beard dye and developer according to the package.

Step 2: Apply to your brows with a small angled brush. The box will come with a brush, and you can use that but for the sake of precision, we like a small brush. Make sure all your brow hairs are fully saturated with the product. You can also comb through them with a clean spoolie to distribute the product more evenly.

Step 3: Once you’ve applied the product, clean up around the brow with a Q-tip if you did not apply Vaseline. If you did you can leave it, or clean it up, it’s your choice. The box will say to leave the product on for 5 minutes. For first-time tinters, we recommend no more than 1 minute. Wipe off the beard dye with a makeup wipe until the wipe comes away clean. Your brows should look darker and will continue to darken over the next few hours.

The frequency with which you re-dye your brows is up to you. Some redheads choose to do so every week or two, while others may go several weeks to months. Your brows will begin to fade over time, and that’s how you know when to reapply the beard dye.

Always patch test

You might be nervous at the prospect of combing a foreign substance into the brows. That is why we highly recommend a patch test. After mixing the dye according to the instructions, brush a tiny bit onto the tail end of your right or left brow to see how it will turn out. And, if you’re not sure about your color, go one shade lighter. You can always leave it on longer, but the biggest issue is that people’s brows get tinted too dark and they’re unhappy with how dark they are.

How do you style your new brows?

Having tinted brows is a game changer. You’ll wake up with darker brows every single day and it won’t wash off when you shower, sweat, or swim. To style your new brows, we love the Finally Have Brows® Clear Brow Gel for shaping and taming. You can also use the Finally Have Brows® Ultra Fine Pencil to define and fill sparse areas. When you need a full glam look, Finally Have Brows® Tinted Brow Gels are the perfect addition and will blend seamlessly with your brow color.

Just like with our How To Wear series, we’re working on a new How Redheads Can Rock makeup series. We talk trends, unique makeup, and makeup stereotypes that redheads face. This time, we’re talking about nude lipstick.

For redheads getting into makeup, it can be tempting to stay within the neutral area of makeup because they find that neutral tones complement their natural hair color and skin tone best. Neutral tones, such as browns, taupes, and soft pinks, can harmonize with the warmth of red hair without overpowering it. Additionally, opting for neutral makeup allows redheads to achieve a more subtle and natural look that enhances their features without competing with their vibrant hair color.

Nude lipstick is a staple in most women’s makeup collections, but the key to rocking a nude lip well is finding the perfect color for your complexion. Nude lipstick can often be too dark and cool-toned for redheads. This can leave your lips looking a little dull and almost gray. We’ve talked about how to pick a nude lipstick that won’t wash you out (spoiler alert: get H2BAR’s Finally Bold® Perfectly Nude) but today we’re diving into the ways you can wear a nude lip and a few tricks to help you look your best:

Won't Wash You Out: Perfectly Nude: $26

How to rock nude lips with different glam looks:

Nude lipstick is super versatile and can be worn with almost any makeup style. A few ways we love to pair our nude lipstick is:

  • Minimal Makeup: Nude lipstick is a great way to finish off a minimal makeup look. If you’ve got the right nude, it should look very natural and complement your natural features. A nude lip is great for this look because it’s not too bold or showy and won’t make your features look off-balance.
  • Balanced Glam: Nude can also help to balance out a soft glam look. When you’ve got your eyes and face done up, you don’t want to leave your lips bare. Wearing a nude lip ties the whole look together while letting the focus be on your other features.
  • Colored Eye Look: Wearing a bright, bold, or unique eye look? Pink or red lipstick might clash with whatever you’ve got going on. That’s why nude makes a perfect option because it’s neutral!
  • Soft Smoky Eye: Pair your nude lipstick with a subtle smoky eye using neutral shades like taupe, bronze, or charcoal. This look adds a touch of drama without overpowering the lips.
  • Monochromatic Makeup: Create a monochromatic look by using similar nude tones on the eyes, cheeks, and lips. This cohesive color scheme offers a chic and polished appearance.
  • Classic Winged Eyeliner: Combine nude lipstick with a classic winged eyeliner for a timeless and sophisticated look. The bold eyeliner adds definition to the eyes while the nude lips keep the overall aesthetic balanced.
  • Bold Eyebrows: Emphasize your brows with a bold, well-defined shape paired with nude lipstick. This look draws attention to the eyes and frames the face beautifully.
  • Fresh-faced Glow: Opt for a fresh-faced makeup look with minimal eye makeup, a natural-looking base, and a nude lipstick with a hint of gloss. This effortless style enhances your features while maintaining a radiant, dewy finish.

These are just a few ideas to explore, but the possibilities are endless when it comes to pairing nude lipstick with different makeup looks!

Tips for how to apply a nude lipstick

  • Add a Lip Liner: You can amp up a simple nude lip with lip liner. Try a perfect match for a seamless finished look, or go a few shades darker for a retro 90s-style vibe.
  • Blend it Out: If you’ve got a “no makeup” makeup look going on, a full lipstick application might feel too heavy. Instead, try applying it just to the center of the lips and blending outward with your finger for a subtle bit of color and coverage.
  • Apply Over Lip Balm: If you’ve got a nude lipstick that’s a little too matte or has a drier finish, try applying it over lip balm. This helps to soften the application and helps it wear better. And when you’re all done with that tube, grab a cream finish option like Finally Bold®!
  • Find the Right Shade: Choose a nude lipstick shade that complements your skin tone and undertones. Experiment with different hues, from warm to cool tones, to find the most flattering nude for you. Invest in H2BAR’s Finally Bold® Perfectly Nude made specifically for redheads.
  • Prep Your Lips: Ensure your lips are smooth and hydrated by exfoliating and moisturizing them before applying nude lipstick. This helps create a smooth canvas and prevents the color from clinging to dry patches.
  • Balance with Makeup: Consider balancing your nude lipstick with the rest of your makeup. If you’re wearing minimal eye makeup, you can go for a slightly bolder nude lip shade. If your eye makeup is more dramatic, opt for a softer nude lip to keep the overall look balanced.
  • Touch Up Throughout the Day: Nude lipstick shades may fade faster than bolder colors, so keep your lipstick handy for touch-ups throughout the day, especially after meals or drinks.
  • Consider Your Outfit: Take into account your outfit and overall style when choosing a nude lipstick shade. Some nude lipsticks may complement certain clothing colors or styles better than others.

By following these tips, you can rock nude lipstick confidently and effortlessly enhance your natural beauty. Rock it like a Redhead!

Sabrina Carpenter is arguably one of the biggest rising stars right now, and her iconic haircut and makeup look is taking the beauty world by storm. Her hair is big and voluminous with lots of shape and texture, and her makeup feels a little retro, but also very on-trend. Her look is soft and dewy but sculpted and glowing at the same time. Fun Fact: Sabrina might be a blonde now, but did you know she rocked the red? Back in the early 2010s, Sabrina was a redhead. It’s not her natural color, but it looked great on her.

Here’s how redheads can achieve their own Sabrina Carpenter-style look:

The Sabrina Carpenter Hair

Sabrina’s most popular style is a big, almost undone blowout with her signature bangs. Sabrina’s haircut is long with lots of layers that evoke a 70s-style shape, but her bangs are what pull it all together. They are full but can be worn more swooped to the sides to frame her face. Her blowout is easy and can be achieved at home with a dryer brush, velcro rollers, or a tool like the Dyson Airwrap or Shark Flexstyle

For the bangs, one method you can try is using a round brush + blow dryer or a dryer brush, curl your bangs under (towards your forehead), and let them sit either on the round brush or in a roller for a few minutes until cool. Once you release them, they should be pretty rounded. Then, split your bangs down the middle and use a curling iron, or your round brush again to curl them under and out at and angle toward the ear to create that swoop, adjust, and comb flat in a swooping motion. There are tons of methods for shaping these types of bangs, so try different ones until you find one that suits you.

The Sabrina Carpenter Makeup

Sabrina’s makeup look is pretty glowy and she usually wears a very full coverage, flawless finish base that’s a little dewy. Her brows are quite full and fluffy, but also locked into place. Her contour and concealer focuses on sculpting the cheekbones and nose and adds brightness throughout the center of the face. Sabrina wears a noticeable pink blush placed high on the cheeks and blending towards the hairline. The blush Sabrina wears has been referred to as “doll blush” as it highlights the cheeks in a very doll-like way. Sabrina usually also has a lot of highlighter on the cheek under the eye which gives her a very angelic look. For eyes, she usually rocks a more simple pink or light brown eye look with soft winged liner and long, flirty lashes. For lips, Sabrina often wears a darker brown/nude lip with a more defined liner.

Finally Bold® redhead lipsticks dropped on May 10th and we’re so excited for everyone to enjoy them. The new lipstick line is made for redheads by redheads in the three essential colors every redhead should own. We custom-designed these shades to flatter all redheads and to be your go-to daily lipstick. Influencers like @withwonderandwhimsy are showing off their outfits when wearing the different shades of Finally Bold. Are you ready to start rocking your lipstick with a new outfit? Here are a few tips to help you style each shade.

Finally Bold® - Lipsticks for Redheads: $26

1. Won’t Wash You Out: Perfectly Nude

Nude lipstick is a must-have for everyone, but it can be hard to find the right shade for redheads. Lots of nude lipsticks are too fark for fair-skinned redheads, or wash you out. Perfectly Nude is just that — the perfect nude shade for redheads. Because it’s a nude, you can pair this shade with any outfit, but a few ways we love to rock it are:

  • Business / Work Wear: A nude lip is elegant and understated but still very chic. It won’t clash with any colors you choose to wear, and pairs great with neutrals too.
  • Neutral Top + Jeans: Dressed up or down, a neutral-colored top with some denim on the bottom is a staple look. Pair this classic look with a classic lip shade like nude.
  • Cool-Toned Looks: Wearing something more cool-toned? A nude lip is the perfect way to make sure you’re not clashing!

Won't Wash You Out: Perfectly Nude: $26

2. Pinking of You: Perfectly Pink

For some redheads, pink is their nude and it’s almost as versatile. A good pink shade adds color and definition to the lips without feeling overwhelming. It’s almost like your lips — but better. Like a nude lipstick, there really are no limits, but we love to rock Perfectly Pink with:

  • Casual Attire: For a pop of color and fun with any outfit, even the casual ones, we love a pink lipstick. It’s very natural and gives just the right amount of definition to the lips.
  • Anything Floral: It can be hard to pair florals, especially if they have a lot of color. The one color that seems to complement them all? Pink! Pair Perfectly Pink with a floral top, dress, or skirt.
  • Warm-Toned Looks: Another gorgeous way to balance your warm-toned looks is with some pink lipstick. It won’t compete with the warm colors, and won’t wash you out.

Pinking of You: Perfectly Pink: $26

3. RED-Y For This: Perfectly Red

The lipstick that scares so many redheads is red. You can rock it with confidence1 Red lipstick doesn’t go with every outfit, but it can be dressed up or down for a classic style.

  • Formal Attire: We love a red lip for a formal look, especially when wearing black, or RED! Of course nude and pink work wonders for formal attire too, but red really steals the show.
  • Red + White: The quintessential way to wear red lipstick is with a red and white outfit. This color combo can be dressed up or down, paired with denim, or made elegant and chic. Whatever your style, try out the red and white combo with Perfectly Red.
  • Dark Neutrals: Red can go with anything neutral, but a look we really love is pairing a red lip with a darker neutral like black, dark gray, navy blue, and deep earthy tans.

RED-Y For This: Perfectly Red: $26

Rock it like a Redhead!

For most redheads, the blonde brow struggle is real. Redheads often have lighter eyebrows compared to their hair color due to variations in melanin production. The same genetic factors that result in red hair can also affect the color of eyebrows and other body hair. While the exact reasons for blonde eyebrows in redheads aren’t fully understood, it’s likely related to the interplay of different pigmentation genes and how they influence melanin distribution throughout the body.

But putting science being us, the real-real is that having light blonde eyebrows can make it look like you have no brows at all — especially in contrast with your red hair. We often get questions about darkening eyebrows, rocking the light brow look, and of course, the best redhead brow products.

Did you know there are options for darkening your blonde redhead brows naturally*?! We know some redheads want a way to just wake up with dark brows without doing anything to them. Unfortunately, there’s no way to make the blonde brow hairs grow darker, but there are some DIY ways for darkening the existing hairs in a more “natural” way.

1. Castor Oil

Castor Oil is known to help darken light brows and lashes. Simply apply a light coat to your brows with a spoolie every night before bed. Castor oil is known for helping your hair to be thicker and fuller and could potentially help to darken blonde eyebrows. Over time, the castor oil can help darken the eyebrows naturally. Be consistent with the application for best results.

Using castor oil to darken blonde eyebrows for redheads has several pros and cons:

Pros:

1. Natural Solution: Castor oil is a natural and chemical-free option for darkening eyebrows, which can be appealing for those looking to avoid synthetic products.

2. Nourishing: Castor oil contains nutrients that can nourish the eyebrows, potentially promoting thicker and healthier growth over time.

3. Cost-effective: Castor oil is relatively inexpensive compared to other eyebrow darkening products, making it a budget-friendly option.

Cons:

1. Time-consuming: It may take several weeks or even months of consistent application to see noticeable results, which requires patience and commitment.

2. Variable Results: The effectiveness of castor oil in darkening eyebrows can vary from person to person, depending on factors like hair type, genetics, and individual response to the oil.

3. Potential Irritation: Some people may experience irritation or allergic reactions to castor oil, especially if they have sensitive skin or existing skin conditions. It’s essential to perform a patch test before applying it to the eyebrows regularly.

Overall, while castor oil offers a natural and affordable option for darkening blonde eyebrows for redheads, it requires patience and may not be suitable for everyone due to potential skin reactions and variable results.

Castor Oil: $16

2. Henna

This natural vegetable dye can be used to tint your brows more “naturally.” Beware, henna can sometimes turn your brow hairs green if not done properly.

To darken blonde eyebrows with henna, choose a shade like light brown or auburn. Mix henna powder with water to form a paste. Clean brows, apply petroleum jelly around them, and use a brush to apply the paste. Let it dry for 30 mins to an hour, then leave it on for hours or overnight. Remove excess and avoid cleansers for 24 hours. Always patch test before use.

Using henna on blonde brows has its pros and cons:

Pros:

1. Natural Option: Henna is a natural dye derived from plants, making it a chemical-free alternative for coloring eyebrows.

2. Long-lasting Color: Henna can provide longer-lasting color compared to some other eyebrow tinting methods, typically lasting for several weeks.

3. Customizable Shades: Henna comes in various shades, allowing you to choose a color that matches your desired eyebrow shade, including options suitable for redheads.

Cons:

1. Limited Color Options: While henna offers a range of shades, the color outcome may still be limited compared to synthetic eyebrow dyes, especially for achieving lighter or more vibrant colors.

2. Time-consuming Process: Applying henna to the eyebrows can be a time-consuming process, requiring mixing the paste, application, drying time, and development time.

3. Potential Skin Staining: Henna has the potential to stain the skin around the eyebrows if not applied carefully, leading to temporary discoloration that may take time to fade.

Overall, henna provides a natural and long-lasting option for coloring blonde eyebrows, but it requires time and care during application to achieve the desired results while avoiding skin staining.

3. Cocoa Powder + Activated Charcoal

In an article from Byrdie, they claim you can darken brows with aloe, cocoa powder, activated charcoal, and vitamin E oil. “First, mix aloe vera gel, cocoa powder, and vitamin E oil. Add the activated charcoal powder to create your desired color. Apply this paste to your brows using a spoolie brush or Q-tip, leave for 20 minutes, then rinse.”

Using cocoa powder and activated charcoal to darken redhead brows has its advantages and disadvantages:

Pros:

1. Natural Ingredients: Both cocoa powder and activated charcoal are natural substances, making them a chemical-free option for darkening eyebrows.

2. Customizable Shades: You can adjust the ratio of cocoa powder to activated charcoal to achieve your desired eyebrow shade, allowing for customization based on personal preference.

3. Cost-effective: Cocoa powder and activated charcoal are generally affordable and readily available, making them a budget-friendly option for eyebrow darkening.

Cons:

1. Potential Messiness: Mixing cocoa powder and activated charcoal into a paste can be messy and may require some trial and error to get the consistency right for application.

2. Limited Lasting Power: Unlike some other eyebrow tinting methods, the color from cocoa powder and activated charcoal may not last as long and may require more frequent reapplication.

3. Variable Results: The effectiveness of cocoa powder and activated charcoal in darkening eyebrows can vary depending on factors such as hair type, skin tone, and individual response to the ingredients, leading to inconsistent results.

Overall, while cocoa powder and activated charcoal offer a natural and cost-effective option for darkening redhead brows, they may require more effort and maintenance compared to other eyebrow tinting methods, and results can vary.

Bonus: Simply invest in Finally Have Brows®

The universal red shade works for all redheads and our array of brow products will help you to tint, tame, define, and fill your redhead brows in a natural-looking way.

*DISCLAIMERS:

If you use any products on your eyes, the FDA urges you to follow these safety tips:

  • If any eye cosmetic causes irritation, stop using it immediately. If irritation persists, see a doctor.
  • Avoid using eye cosmetics if you have an eye infection or the skin around the eye is inflamed. Wait until the area is healed. Discard any eye cosmetics you were using when you got the infection.
  • Be aware that there are bacteria on your hands that, if placed in the eye, could cause infections. Wash your hands before applying eye cosmetics.
  • Make sure that any instrument you place in the eye area is clean.
  • Don’t share your cosmetics. Another person’s bacteria may be hazardous to you.
  • Don’t allow cosmetics to become covered with dust or contaminated with dirt or soil. Keep containers clean.
  • Don’t use old containers of eye cosmetics. Manufacturers usually recommend discarding mascara two to four months after purchase.
  • Discard dried-up mascara. Don’t add saliva or water to moisten it. The bacteria from your mouth may grow in the mascara and cause infection. Adding water may introduce bacteria and will dilute the preservative that is intended to protect against microbial growth.
  • Don’t store cosmetics at temperatures above 85 degrees F. Cosmetics held for long periods in hot cars, for example, are more susceptible to deterioration of the preservative.
  • When applying or removing eye cosmetics, be careful not to scratch the eyeball or other sensitive area. Never apply or remove eye cosmetics in a moving vehicle.
  • Don’t use any cosmetics near your eyes unless they are intended specifically for that use. For instance, don’t use a lip liner as an eye liner. You may be exposing your eyes to contamination from your mouth, or to color additives that are not approved for use in the area of the eye.
  • Avoid color additives that are not approved for use in the area of the eye, such as “permanent” eyelash tints and kohl. Be especially careful to keep kohl away from children, since reports have linked it to lead poisoning.
  • Always be very careful!

We get questions from redheads of all ages asking about our How to be a Redhead (H2BAR) products. We get many messages wanting to know if they work for two different spectrums: teens or mature redheads. At How to be a Redhead, we make products for redheads of all ages! Redheads face many of the same issues regardless of age and can rely on our products through every stage of life. We know most makeup and beauty items are geared toward women in their 20s-40s, but let’s dive into why they can be used by all ages.

Why H2BAR products are great for teens

For young tweens and teens just getting into makeup and beauty products, we know there can be some parent hesitation. We also know, being that we were once young redheads, you just want to fit in. Having light brows and lashes can often make you stand out, and H2BAR products can be used to give redhead teens a super natural look.

Finally Have Lashes® Auburn Mascara is wonderful for giving your lashes just a light coat of color, while Finally Have Brows® can give a natural tint to the brow so it appears more defined. Redhead teens who are using How to be a Redhead products can still look youthful and not overdone while feeling confident. We also promise they will keep using these products into their twenties and beyond!

Why H2BAR products are great for mature redheads

Based on the comments and reviews we get, mature redheads over 50 are huge fans of Finally Have Brows® and Finally Have Lashes®! It’s no surprise because most of these redheads have been waiting their whole lives for products geared towards them. For mature redheads, they want products they know won’t irritate their eyes and skin, and will give them a nice, natural look.

Check out some of these awesome reviews we’ve gotten from mature redheads:

Finally Have Brows® Ultra Fine Pencil

“In the past everything on the consumer market was way too dark, too brown . Even auburns were really to dark for me. Blonde shades were too gray/taupe. At age 70 I’ve finally found the best match ever. Most people guess my age as being more like 50, so this finally looks like me and not an ‘old lady’ or ‘clown’. THANK YOU ! THANK YOU!” – Cynthia

Finally Have Brows® – Volumizing Brow Gel

“As a 70+ year old woman, I was unsure how I would like this face change. It took a few days to get use to the change to brow color that actually matched my natural (now colored) hair but I’m happy. Any chance you have a solid brow color (applied with a brush after a clear styling gel) in the works? Thank you!” – Lynda

Finally Have Lashes® Enhancing Mascara

“This is the best mascara I have ever used and being 68 years old, I have tried numerous mascara brands thru the years. It goes on easily, no clumps, lashes don’t stick together, and the color is perfect! It stays on all day without smudging, and doesn’t cause any problems with my sensitive eyes. Perfect for redheads.” – JW

Finally Have Brows® Ultra Fine Pencil

“This is a great product! The color is perfect for me. I am strawberry blonde-ish. My brows and lashes are very light. This is the best product I have ever used in my 54 years!” – Treena

Finally Have Brows® – Longwearing Brow Gel

“Thank you for your help. I wish this product had been around 50 years ago when I really needed it but I am glad to know about it now.” – Mary

Finally Have Brows® Ultra Fine Pencil

“I’ve been waiting for decades for the correct eyebrow color. Thank you!!” – Lee

Finally Have Lashes® Enhancing Mascara

“As I have aged I’ve developed allergies that were never part of my life when I was in my 20’s or even 40’s. Recently my eyes have become super sensitive to mascaras. Your products are outstanding. Bet you’re surprised to hear from a woman who just reached 70. Waited for your products my entire adult life. FINALLY MY EYES AREN’T ITCHING SORE OR WATERING WHEN USING MASCARA THANKS TO H2BAR!!!” – Cynthia

Every week, we put out a call for your redhead questions. This gives you a chance to get advice or input from our team of redheads. From beauty and fashion to lifestyle, redheads are in a unique boat, and we want to help make this community a place where you can turn to for all your redhead needs.

This week’s question comes from Instagram and reads, “What lipsticks should I use?” We also got some questions on redheads wearing red lipstick. Today, we’re talking all things lipstick. How to choose the right shade, what colors suit redheads best, plus some application tips to make your lipstick look amazing, and more.

1. How to choose the right shade

When it comes to choosing a lipstick shade, it can be overwhelming. There are so many options and you might wonder which color is best for you. Well, here’s a little secret: redheads can wear any color of lipstick they like. That’s right. There are no rules and you can rock whatever colors speak to you. That being said, we think every redhead should have three staple colors in their makeup collection: nude, pink, and red. With these three colors, you can match any makeup look or outfit and you’re set for any occasion. That’s why we created Finally Bold® in these three core colors. Not only did we pick formulas we know redheads will love, but we also customized the colors to be the perfect shade for redheads. The nude won’t wash you out, the pink isn’t too pink, and the red won’t compete with your hair.

2. The million dollar question: how can redheads wear a red lip?

Speaking of red lipstick, there are a lot of misconceptions that redheads shouldn’t wear red lipstick. We love a red lip and think redheads can rock it flawlessly. The biggest factor in loving your red lip is finding the perfect shade of red. Red lipstick comes in hundreds of shades, some are blue-toned, and some are orange-toned. Some red lipsticks are dark, while others border on pink or coral. We really love a true red for redheads, just like our new Finally Bold® in the shade ‘Perfectly Red’.

3. Know how to apply the lipstick

If you’re new to wearing lipstick, or just can’t seem to get the application right, we’re here to let you in on a few tricks we’ve learned over the years.

  • Lip liner is your friend. It helps you keep nice clean edges, prevents color bleed, and makes your look more polished.
  • Always blot your lipstick. Especially when wearing red lipstick, it’s important to remove excess to avoid transferring the lipstick to your teeth. Use a clean tissue or the finger trick to remove any excess.
  • Prep your lips before applying. Just like makeup, our lips need to be prepped and primed for flawless application. Exfoliating your lips and applying a light layer of chapstick 10-20 minutes before applying your lipstick is a great way to prime them.
  • Less is more when it comes to lipstick. Over-application can be messy and look unnatural. Try applying your lipstick gently starting in the center of the bottom lip. Work your way out using gentle pressure and sweeping motions. Avoid pressing too hard. If you like a more blotted look apply a little in the center and then using your lips or your finger, blur it outward.

If there’s one thing about redheads, many of us (thanks to TikTok) have the minimal, fresh-faced “no makeup” look down. Our freckles peek through and with the help of Finally Have Lashes redhead mascara and a few swipes of Finally Have Brows tinted brow gel, it’s perfection. But minimal, low-key makeup isn’t for everyone, and that includes some redheads. 90s styles and “edgy” grunge-style makeup have been trending. If you’re wondering how to achieve this look, we’ve got you!

1. Eyeliner

The key to these “edgy” or “grunge” makeup looks is eyeliner. Now we normally love brown liner for redheads, but to achieve this look you have to use black. Black liner gives that dark, grunge look you’re going for. You can use a liquid liner and create a wing, or try a pencil liner and smudge it out. But it’s important to use liner on both the top and bottom of your eye to really get the look you’re going for.  Many redheads have the added benefit of fair skin, which will make the black liner pop even more.

For a grunge edgy makeup look, consider these eyeliner techniques:

1. Smudged Liner: Apply a creamy black eyeliner along your upper lash line, then smudge it out with a small brush or a cotton swab for a worn-in look.

2. Graphic Liner: Create bold, angular lines or geometric shapes using a black liquid eyeliner for a striking contrast against the rest of your makeup.

3. Winged Liner: Apply a classic winged eyeliner using a black gel or liquid liner, but extend the wing slightly further and make it more angular for a edgier vibe.

4. Double Liner: Line both your upper and lower lash lines with a black eyeliner, then add a second line above or below the first using a different color or texture, like a metallic liner or a dark eyeshadow, for dimension.

5. Smoked Out Liner: Line your eyes with a black pencil liner, then smudge it out with a smudging brush or eyeshadow for a smoked-out effect that adds depth and intensity to your eyes.

2. Mascara

Another product we adore in shades of auburn and brown is mascara, but again for this look, it’s gotta be black! Try the Finally Have Lashes® Hourglass Mascara in “Perfectly Black” to make your lashes pop. Apply your mascara heavily to the outer corners to accentuate the eye and create that cat-like affect. Bottom lash mascara is optional.

3. Lips

An edgy eye look can either be paired with a more neutral lip if you want the eyes to be the star of the show or if you want to go full-on bold — go dark. We love a dark lip on redheads and think more redheads should embrace dark lip colors. Try a dark pinky brown, a dark red or even a black if you want to fully commit.

To apply a dark red grunge edgy lip, start by exfoliating your lips to ensure a smooth canvas. Then, line your lips with a dark red lip liner, slightly overlining if desired for added drama. Fill in your lips with a dark red lipstick using a lip brush or straight from the bullet for precision. Blot with a tissue and reapply for intensity. For a grunge effect, gently smudge the edges with your fingertip or a cotton swab. Optional: add a touch of black lipstick or eyeshadow to the center and blend outward for depth.

If you’re someone who has thin lips or just wants fuller lips, you have a few options. You can use makeup to overline and give the appearance of fuller lips, or you can do something to actually make your lips fuller. For some, this means getting lip injections from a plastic surgeon. However, this isn’t an option or even a desire for everyone. A common alternative to cosmetic lip injections is lip plumping products. People use lip plumper products primarily to enhance the appearance of their lips by making them look fuller and more voluminous. Lip plumpers typically contain ingredients like menthol, cinnamon, or peptides that cause temporary swelling or irritation, resulting in a plumper appearance.

Well, redheads might need to be careful when using lip plumper products. Here’s why:

The truth is that lip-plumping products achieve the swell by temporarily irritating the lip and causing a reaction. Most lip plumpers stimulate the blood flow to the area. This irritation typically results in a tingling or slightly burning sensation, which some people find uncomfortable but others may enjoy for the temporary plumping effect it provides. It’s similar to the way that spicy foods can cause your lips to change color and become swollen and tender.

While the majority of lip-plumping glosses and topical products are relatively safe, they could be something redheads should be cautious of. Redheads are more likely to have sensitive skin, and because lip-plumping products are intended to cause a reaction, they may be getting more than they bargained for. Lip plumpers can cause redness and swelling around the mouth if not applied neatly, and redheads with extra sensitive skin could even cause over-swelling, rashes, or other kinds of breakouts.

There are alternatives to lip plumpers:

Apart from lip plumpers, there are several other products and methods that can help plump your lips:

1. Lip Scrubs: Exfoliating your lips with a gentle lip scrub can help remove dead skin cells, leaving your lips smoother and slightly plumper.

2. Lip Masks: Similar to face masks, lip masks are designed to hydrate and plump the lips. Look for masks containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid or collagen.

3. Lip Serums: Lip serums often contain ingredients like peptides and antioxidants that can help improve lip texture and fullness over time.

4. Lip Oils: These products provide hydration and nourishment to the lips, making them appear fuller and more supple.

5. Cinnamon or Peppermint Oil: These essential oils can temporarily plump the lips by increasing blood flow to the area. However, they can also cause irritation in some individuals, so use them with caution.

6. DIY Lip Plumping Masks: You can create your own lip plumping masks using natural ingredients like honey, cinnamon, and coconut oil. These can help hydrate and plump the lips temporarily.

7. Lip Plumping Gloss: Some lip glosses contain ingredients like menthol or capsaicin that create a tingling sensation and temporarily plump the lips.

Remember to be cautious when trying new products or methods, especially if you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergic reactions. It’s always a good idea to do a patch test first and consult with a dermatologist if you have any concerns.

Don’t forget to spot test

This doesn’t mean redheads can’t enjoy plumping products, but be sure you spot-test and apply carefully. Redheads may not know they have sensitivity to something until it’s applied to the skin.

To patch test a lip plumper:

1. Choose a small, inconspicuous area on your skin, such as the inside of your wrist or elbow.

2. Cleanse the area with a gentle cleanser and pat it dry.

3. Apply a small amount of the lip plumper to the test area.

4. Leave the product on for at least 24 hours without washing it off.

5. Monitor the test area for any signs of irritation, such as redness, itching, or swelling.

6. If you experience any adverse reactions, wash the area with water and discontinue use of the product.

7. If no irritation occurs after 24 hours, the lip plumper is likely safe for use on your lips.

Remember to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and consult with a dermatologist if you have any concerns about potential allergic reactions or skin sensitivities.
