There are many stereotypes that say redheads wearing red looks non-complementary. It could not be further away from the truth and celebrities like Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams and Julianne Moore prove it time and time again.

In a recent interview with Michael Kors, Allure editor Phillip Picardi asked him, “What are some of those “fashion rules” women follow that you wish would stop?” His response was very surprising to us.
“…redheads in red! I love a redhead in red. We had a model start crying once! She had gorgeous, natural red hair and we put her in a red dress, and she started crying. So I asked her, why are you crying? And she said, no red…I cannot wear red! I said no no no, it’s great. It’s like a blonde in yellow — I love a blonde in yellow. Even if someone told you when you were young, “Don’t do that,” well, there’s a way to do it, and I think the way to learn how is just by seeing photographs of yourself. Look at your Instagram feed — you can break out of the box.”

We spoke with Karen Malecki, a redhead costume designer for the television show White Collar. She has designed clothes for many Hollywood stars, including Jessica Chastain for Take Shelter in 2011.
Needless to say, Malecki knows a thing or two about redhead fashion tips. “I like to stick to the deeper reds that have more purple in them than fire engine red, which has more orange,” says Malecki. “However, I believe that redheads can wear both.”
Here are some tips for the next time you wear red:
1. Wear bright red pants or a bright red skirt to add some red to your wardrobe.
2. Accent your look with red accessories – a red belt, red shoes, red lipstick or nail polish.
3. Choose a great print with red accents.
4. Go for it and wear a red dress! It’s bold, beautiful and festive.
