Vogue is the pinnacle of beauty and fashion publications, and they recently put out an article called “The 60 Best Redheads of All Time”. The piece kicks off with a sentence we love, “This has been the year of the redhead.” The focus of the article is primarily on the 60 redheads featured.
We noticed the majority of the Vogue list features redheads ‘by choice,’ which we love, but were saddened to see many natural redheads were not included. On the list are the obvious natural redhead choices: Jessica Chastain, Lindsay Lohan, Prince Harry, Julianne Moore, as well as Nicole Kidman, who is a natural redhead although in recent years has primarily rocked blonde locks. Missing are natural redheads like Sadie Sink, Madelaine Petsch, and Isla Fisher.
The list also features some historic redheads like Elizabeth I, and some works of art featuring redheads such as Lady in the Hat and Feather Boa, and The Woman with Red Hair. Of course, famous redhead cartoons like Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Jessica Rabbit, and Wilma and Pebbles from The Flintstones are also featured.
There are a few redheads ‘by choice’ who committed deeply to the color like Lucille Ball, Emma Stone, and Molly Ringwald, but many of the redheads on the list have only been red a short time, or are non-redheads who happened to be red at one point like Lana Del Rey, Rihanna and Tyra Banks.
We love seeing redheads represented by big beauty brands, but would have loved to see more natural redheads make the cut.
