How Redheads Can Color Correct Dark Circles Under The Eyes

Don't Let Dark Circles Get You Down!

It’s quite common for redheads to suffer from dark under eyes and visible veins around the eyes. This is because our coupertose thin redhead skin allows more of the dark color to show through. Color correcting under the eyes can be tricky, but here are some tips to help brighten your under-eyes:

1. Wash and moisturize your face

If you have particularly dark under-eyes you may be applying a lot of makeup and you don’t want it to look cakey or flakey. Start with fresh, clean skin and moisturize to ensure great makeup coverage.

Tip: We provide a special service called the H2BAR Box. ‘Redhead Friendly’ approved beauty products are sent to you monthly and quarterly, just like the cream mentioned in the below Reel. Subscribe Now!

2. Use a primer

Priming the skin will help the makeup sit nicely and keep in on your face all day long. Use a sensitive skin-safe primer that allows buildable coverage.

3. Utilize color theory

It’s not enough to just apply foundation or concealer. You need to combat the dark color you’re experiencing. This is where you need to understand color theory. Certain colors can cancel each other out. So if you have purple/blue hued under your eyes, use a yellow or peach color corrector. If your dark under-eyes are more green, you want to use something red or pink.

4. Build coverage

Utilize products that have buildable coverage. Cream or liquid products are best for this. Opt for a concealer that is 1-2 shades lighter than your skin to help brighten the area.

Tip: Always wait for layers to dry down a little before adding more coverage.

5. Bounce, don’t wipe

Makeup sponges are great for building coverage because they bounce along your skin leaving the product nice and even. Makeup brushes can often leave makeup streaky or patchy because the bristles are being dragged along the skin.

6. Set everything

Make sure to set your makeup with a setting powder, setting spray, or even both to keep everything locked in place. Tinted setting powders can even be used under the eyes to add additional color correction.

7. Want to do more than cover with makeup?

Makeup is not the only way you can combat dark under-eye circles. You can do some things at home or go to a professional esthetician to get a little extra help.

At home, you can apply cold tea bags to your eyes to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Simply soak tea bags in hot water for five minutes, allow them to cool off in your fridge, and apply them over your closed eyes for 15 to 20 minutes. The caffeine and antioxidants in the tea can encourage blood circulation and shrink your blood vessels.

If you struggle with under-eye bags, try elevating your head when you sleep. It will prevent fluid from pooling under your eyes, causing bags to form.

Rock it like a Redhead!
