Raspberry Seed Oil as Natural SPF? Here’s The Truth, Redheads

Everything You Need to Know!

There are a lot of foods, plants, and other naturally occurring items in this world that can offer UV protection and/or UV repair for post-sun use. Foods like guava, sweet potatoes, strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, and watermelon can all be incorporated into our diets to help boost our UB protection from the inside out.

There is a big trend going on where people are using oils, like wheatgerm oil and vitamin E oil, as a sunscreen. Yes, they do provide protection, but those oils are only offering SPF 15 and under. However, there is one oil that offers SPF 28 – 50 and even offers broad spectrum defense. Redheads, meet raspberry seed oil. Raspberry seed oil, meet redheads.

What is raspberry seed oil?

Raspberry seed oil is cold-pressed from red raspberries and is packed with fatty acids and vitamins that are beneficial for your skin. One of those benefits is UV protection. Raspberry seed oils can be purchased as pure oil, or you can find it as an ingredient in skincare products!

Can it replace my SPF?

NO! Raspberry seed oil cannot replace your SPF, even though it offers UV protection of 28 – 50. Here’s why. Raspberry seed oil only offers us protection from UVA rays and while those are the rays that can cause premature signs of aging, they aren’t the ones that cause skin cancer. UVB is the form of UV rays that damage the skin to the extent of cancer. So, using only raspberry seed oil means your skin may have fewer wrinkles, but you’re still at a very high risk of skin cancer.

How should redheads use raspberry seed oil?

Besides protecting our redhead skin from UVA rays, the raspberry seed oil is also anti-inflammatory, a good source of vitamins A and E, and it’s non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging). The best way to use raspberry seed oil is in conjunction with your other skincare products. It can be used as a stand-alone oil or mixed in with other skincare. It can also be found in skincare products you may know and love.

Always wear a sunscreen in conjunction with raspberry seed oil.

Rock it like a Redhead!
